Social Housing Crisis

Buckinghamshire’s social housing crisis needs urgent action.

Buckinghamshire’s social housing crisis needs urgent action. More than 7,000 families are now on the council’s social rent waiting list, with more than 500 added in just the last 3 months. Supply is falling far short of demand, forcing families to wait years for a suitable home.

Central government data from last year highlights the problem: only 434 social homes were built in Bucks in the decade to March 2022. Meanwhile, 901 homes were sold and 211 demolished, with a net loss of 678 homes.* This underscores the Conservative-led council’s long term failure to meet critical housing needs.

The Liberal Democrats are calling for a commitment to closing the gap in affordable social housing. Without decisive action, many families will continue to face hardship. It’s time to ensure that vulnerable local families find the security they deserve.
