Pothole filled roads throughout Bernwood ward creating traffic nightmares and safety concerns
Since she was elected in June 2022, Bernwood’s Lib Dem Councillor Sue Lewin has constantly strived to improve the appalling condition of the roads in the ward.
Martin Tett, Conservative leader of Bucks Council, has tried to blame exceptionally cold and wet weather last winter, but this will just not wash!
Sue and the local Lib Dem team have always maintained that this is down to many years of neglect by the Council and underfunding by the Conservative government.
The Council have been receiving an average of 165 complaints a day on Fix My Street and
say they now have 15 crews a day trying to catch up with pothole repairs, but much of the work being done is shoddy and inadequate.
Shocking Haddenham blackspot
A good example of this is the recent attempt to repair a badly damaged stretch of Thame Road in Haddenham. This notorious blackspot is next to an old, semi-derelict chicane, dangerously located near a busy road junction close to Haddenham station.
Instead of laying a new road surface, the contractors have simply patched up some random holes and left the rest of the road exactly as it was. One local resident compared the area to being like the surface of the moon!
Sue commented: “This shockingly poor workmanship is indicative of the contempt that the Conservative Council shows to the people of Haddenham. The Lib Dems will continue to hold them to account and fight for the interests of all local people.”
