Looming road safety crisis in Worminghall as residents battle speeding traffic and large numbers of HGVs.
The picture-postcard village of Worminghall has serious traffic problems due to new housing development and heavy traffic using the village to avoid routes such as the Ickford Bridges Road crossing the River Thame.
Bernwood Lib Dem councillor Sue Lewin recently met Elaine Hassall, the manager of the Haddenham and Waddesdon Community Board and two parish councillors in the village.
The conclusion was that ‘build-outs’ to slow traffic would be too expensive, but a good alternative was white gated barriers to accompany the Worminghall signs on entry to the village.
This would make it clear that motorists were entering a 30-mph zone and encourage them to reduce speed.
Sue also expressed concern about the positioning of a new Zebra Crossing at the entrance to the new housing development in Worminghall.
The proposed location is close to a bend in the road as traffic enters the village from the south. Although the Highways Department has declared the crossing to be safe, Sue and the local Lib Dem team will be monitoring it closely.
Sue commented:
“The crossing will be used by residents of the new housing, including families with young children. Given the volatile nature of the traffic in Worminghall and the location close to a bend, we must ensure that the safety of local people using the crossing is paramount.”
