Lib Dem Euro MP Catherine Bearder met celebrity fishing campaigner Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall to discuss the future of fishing.

On a visit to the European Parliament to launch the European Fish Fight Campaign, Fearnley Whittingstall praised the efforts by MEPs to put the issue of fishing reforms high up on the European agenda.

Catherine, a member of the Parliament's Fish for the Future campaigns group, which brings together MEPs from all countries and parties to push ambitious reforms of the Common Fisheries Policy, commented:

"Hugh has been a great ambassador for the UK fishing industry and has done important work to push for some much-needed reforms."

"Thanks to the hard work of campaigners and MEPs here at the Parliament fisheries reform is finally at the top of the political agenda.

"Last summer I literally took the fight to Brussels when my delegation of our local fishing industry met with the European Commissioner for fisheries to discuss reform. I'm delighted to see that another year on we're even closer to the reforms we need."
