Bus services in Oakley,Brill and Ludgershall

3 Dec 2009

This is a letter published by the Bucks Herald in November 09 from local Lib Dem member Bette Melling.

Your report on the loss of the bus service linking Oakley, Brill and Ludgershall with Bicester is another example of the County Council's woeful record on communication and consultation with local people. If people are left confused and angry, it's a pretty safe bet that the County Council has failed to consult in the right way and at the right time. Compounding this failure by asking small parish councils to stump up £1000 each (and at short notice) is unreasonable and unrealistic.

The statement from County Councillor Valerie Letheren promises that she and her colleagues will now try to think of better ways to deliver rural bus services. Would it not have been more sensible to do some thinking before this service was withdrawn?
